Sworn translation with official validity in Spain
A sworn translation (traducción jurada) is the official translation of a document, signed and stamped by a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEC). It is what civil registries, universities, notaries, courts, immigration offices and consulates ask for. When do you need a sworn translation?
Whenever a document written in another language has to be submitted to a Spanish authority, or a Spanish document has to be used abroad. The most common cases are residency and citizenship applications, recognition of degrees, marriages and inheritances involving another country, public tenders and court proceedings.
Format and delivery
A sworn translation is delivered on paper, with the sworn translator's signature and stamp on every page and a final certification, or as an electronic document with a qualified signature when the receiving authority accepts it. If the original carries an apostille, we translate the apostille too so the whole set is valid.

What is the difference between a sworn and a certified translation?
In Spain, the officially valid translation is the sworn translation, done by a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the MAEC. Other countries use certified, notarised or legalised translations; we tell you which one you need for the destination country.
Do I need to send the original document?
A complete, legible scan including the back of each page is usually enough. Some authorities want to see the original; if so, we tell you before we start.
